Shell oil drill rigs in Alaska 2015

The 300 foot high floating oil rig that Royal Dutch Shell intends to install in the Arctic Ocean's Chukchi Sea this summer arrived in Dutch Harbor, Unalaska Is, Aleutians, Alaska early on June 27, 2015, 13 days after it left Seattle WA. The rig with its two ocean-going tugs, came to a stop outside the harbor proper in Unalaska Bay, more than a mile offshore of the Dutch Harbor airport runway. The company plans to move this and many support ships north 1000 miles through the Bering Strait to the drill site in the Arctic Ocean — pending final permissions from the US Government.
